Gallery Exhibition Review

Sitting on the chair beside the windows, I can see myself on the screen opposite me. As I wave my hand, the picture follows me. But it looks somewhat awkward. I move my arm as fast as possible, the moving images pass on, and only the last one remains on the screen in slow tempo. Though the reflected face is shadowy and vague, it seems to be smiling in a shame-faced way. This gives me unpleasant feeling. My picture, delayed for a second, is enigmatic to me. It looks like a strange creature or a cheap replica moving without something important. Following the artist's intention, I can imagine my alter ego appears from back of the chair, and it turns backward and walks. Walking and walking, it goes around the earth and reaches the opposite chair. After the long journey, the ego doubtfully looks toward me and the place it left long ago.
The truth we say now, soon become a lie. The things we did yesterday be totally wiped out today. There's no method in the way of doing thing tomorrow. Myself as the reason, be cut by each frames and it melts into time and space. This mechanical device increases these outrageous feelings. To be honest, living up to the artist's expect, to rearrange these feelings on the large scale -such as the progress of the earth- was a little bit difficult for me. (KURAYA Mika)

Notes 1: "Bijutu Techou" (The Notebook of Arts) is the hottest art magazine in Japan.
